In 1996, I was diagnosed of hyperthyroidism and began medication. Then in the following ten years, I had taken three courses of drug treatment for it relapsed again and again. My physician strongly recommended me to try radioactive iodine treatment since the drug I took might have side effects. She added that my thyroid problem was a life-long bearing and needed a once for all treatment. I felt uncomfortable with the advice, I did not know why, and I prayed to my God, Jesus.
On the day to take the radioactive iodine, I needed a blood test first. While waiting for my blood test result, I prayed in my heart again. My prayer was the physician turned down my treatment. Then a voice came to me, “What if the physician said you are good for treatment? Will you follow the physician’s decision or yours? Do you rely on somebody’s decision? What is your faith? Do you dare to leap your faith and make your own choice?” I was struggling. Was it just my thought or illusion? What should I say to the physician? Then my name was called to see a senior physician.
“Alright, your blood test is good for radioactive iodine treatment. Please sign here and go to room number….” said the senior physician.
“I am sorry, doctor. I have to decline the treatment.” My voice was trembling, not sure if I leap into faith or fall into a trap.
“Why? It is a common treatment for thyroid and rather safe.” The doctor and his assistant stared at me.
“I just do not have confidence in it.”
“Hmm well, it is your own choice and you have to take full responsibility on yourself. I will not follow up your case anymore.”
“I understand.”
I whispered to God in my heart, “Lord, I can only rely on you now. I believe in you.”
Since then in 2006; I stopped taking any drug or treatment for thyroid. It has been almost nine years now and my thyroid problem never relapses.
I consider it as a healing miracle. What do you think? Do you think if it is possible that God will listen and speak to people? Please comment.
Thanks for sharing Rhoda!
