FLU KILLS OVER 250 PEOPLE IN HONG KONG

Everybody wearing mask in hospital to prevent infection of flu
Starting from January, over 350 adults have been admitted to intensive care unit because of seasonal influenza.   Over 250 among the cases are killed; flu death toll in last year is 149.  The deadly flu is caused by Influenza A (H3N2) which is a mutated variant virus newly found in human.  Vaccine is only expected available until April.  The elderly, children and immunocompromised patients bear the brunt.  Meanwhile, personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness should help prevent the further widespread of the disease.  For Christians, let us pray for the protection of our city and the frontline health staff.

Overcome DEPRESSION – a true story

Depression is increasingly common in urban life.  You may hear now and then a friend suffers from it.  Yesterday I chatted with an online friend Grace.  She is originally from Hong Kong but immigrated to the States for years.  When I knew she once suffered from depression, I immediately asked for permission to share her story.  I hope it may give us ideas what to do when things happen.

Starting life in a new country was not easy, especially when Grace lost her job.  She said, “I have no status, no money, and no income of all the family, as well as no many friends.  At that time I have depression and need to see the psychiatrist and took the anti-depression medication for half year. This is the most difficult time in a foreign country of which Grace replied.  Later she added, “The church helps me a lot.  The pastor visited us every Monday and the other friends also gave me a hand. Almost last half year, then I found a job and the status was stable. Finally everything was getting better and better.  Luckily, my son is a very good boy.  He delivered newspaper for the family economy.  When my son was still in college, he did a lot of job for his tuition fee.”

Grace is now fully recovered from her depression.  She believes all things work together for good according to God’s will.  Grace is living happily with her family in Boston.

Certainly life has ups and downs.  In Grace case, I learn that when depression comes, we need to

  • Seek assistance.  Do not lurk in shadow.  Doctor, family, church, pastor and friends, they can help you out in different dimension.

  • Keep in faith.  You can be recovered.  We do not know why things happen but we look for solution.  Turn to Jesus.  He is almighty and cares about you.
